Stitch Doodling

Sometimes I just want to make something even if I don’t have a project on the go. Whilst riffling around under the bed I found a load of felt circles, so I dug them out and have been playing around with different hand stitches. It’s like doodling with pen and paper, but with fabric and thread.

The felt is either commercial or felted jumpers and blankets. The threads I use are either rayon from Handweavers Studio or perle cotton and the circles are 5.5cm in diameter.

These work as mini samplers for me to play with colour and texture. I love how the more I stitch the stiffer and more textured the circles feel and I like to try and blend colour between the circles.

The top right one is the one I’m working on at the moment. There is a bit of variation here with a heart rather than circles. The big image has a commercial flower, which is a bit stiff.

As you can see some of my cutting out is a bit wonky, so I may get a circle die for my Sizzix Big Shot. Having said that what am I going to do with them all? I have 3 tape measures I can cover, but after that I don’t know what I’ll do with them. I wondered about making brooches or applying them to something larger. All suggestions are welcome.
