Since Christmas, which passed in a whirl of activity, I’ve been working hard on a piece for our next exhibition in June. The theme is to do with recycling, which suits me down to the ground, literally, as I can’t walk down the street without picking up junk.
The idea that has gradually evolved is of an underwater diorama, which would be made out of rubbish, old experiments and other stuff I’ve hoarded.
Here is the general idea pinned to my base. The base was made by stretching some tights round a circle of card, stuffing it and then stitching to create the rocks.
As they were black tights I gave them a few coats of acrylic paint.
I haven’t attempted any realism, just let my imagination go, inspired by all the weird and truly wonderful plants and animals living under the sea.
I’ll post later when it’s done.
